The Osmosis ecosystem encompasses a suite of premier, DAO-gated dApps that are seamlessly integrated into the Osmosis AMMs and IBC routing capabilities. Its continuous expansion offers new apps and features, aiming to become a full-service, cross-chain exchange and DeFi hub that balances the user experience of centralized exchanges without compromising the benefits of decentralized finance.
As an AMM, Osmosis allows for the creation of customized liquidity pools with sovereign liquidity, enabling market participants to adjust various parameters in response to market conditions. Its pool governance feature further allows liquidity pool shareholders to participate in strategic decision-making. It's an "AMM as a serviced infrastructure," where the creator of a pool can define the bonding curve value function, optimizing market efficiency for a wide range of decentralized financial products.
The Osmosis (OSMO) automated market maker (AMM) protocol was developed by Sunny Aggarwal and Dev Ojha, launched in 2021. Built using the Cosmos SDK, Osmosis is the premier cross-chain DeFi hub, utilizing Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) to facilitate cross-chain transactions.
OSMO is the native governance token of the Osmosis network, allowing staked token holders to shape the future of the protocol, including all implementation details. Token holders can vote on protocol upgrades, allocate liquidity mining rewards, and set the base network swap fee. The OSMO token also plays a key role in Superfluid Staking, a unique feature of Osmosis that provides additional security to the consensus layer.
