Cosmos is a blockchain ecosystem that enables different blockchains to interoperate. It is a decentralized network of independent, scalable, and interoperable blockchains, allowing for the transfer of value and data across these different chains. The goal of Cosmos is to create an “Internet of Blockchains”, where different blockchains can communicate with each other and transact with one another, allowing users to access a wide array of new applications and services. The Cosmos Network is powered by the native cryptocurrency ATOM.
ATOM is the native cryptocurrency of the Cosmos Network. It is used to pay for transaction and network fees, as well as for staking to secure the network and earning rewards. ATOM tokens are used to create incentives and rewards for validators and delegators, allowing them to earn rewards for participating in consensus and safeguarding the network. ATOM tokens are also used to vote on governance proposals, allowing users to have a say in the direction of the network.
Cosmos was created by the Interchain Foundation, a Swiss-based non-profit organization. The founding team at Interchain Foundation includes Jae Kwon, Ethan Buchman, and Zaki Manian. The mission of the Interchain Foundation is to enable an open, permissionless, and interoperable blockchain ecosystem.
