Multichain (MULTI), formerly known as Anyswap, is a protocol that addresses the need for interoperability among diverse blockchains. Born on July 20, 2020, Multichain has quickly evolved into a prominent cross-chain solution, enabling fast, secure, and inexpensive exchanges of value and data between different blockchain systems.
As an open-source protocol, Multichain doesn't limit itself to Ethereum-based chains, Layer 2 chains, or Parachains. Instead, it aims to enable nearly all blockchains, including Bitcoin types and COSMOS chains, to inter-operate. Its continuously expanding family of supported chains, daily volumes, and a total value locked (TVL) of over $5 billion underscore its growth.
Multichain was born as Anyswap on the 20th July 2020 to service the clear needs of different and diverse blockchains to communicate with each other. Each blockchain has its own unique services that it provides, its own community and its own development ecosystem.
Multichain serves as a versatile platform providing multiple services utilizing its SMPC network:
Multichain's primary service allows for assets to be locked in an MPC smart contract on a source chain, then minted as a corresponding wrapped asset on the target chain. This functionality enables easy and secure transfer of assets across different blockchains.
Launched in June 2021, the Multichain Router permits asset transfers between any two or more chains. It can work with pre-existing assets and bridged assets on blockchains, providing cost-effective solutions for users.
This smart contract function allows projects to execute cross-chain contract calls with the security of Multichain's MPC network.
Multichain also provides a bridge and router for Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), supporting both ERC721 and ERC1155 smart contract standards.
The protocol's governance token, $MULTI, is used to allow token holders to vote and participate in the governance of the Community and Ecosystem. The total supply of MULTI will be 100 million, and a fixed exchange ratio with ANY (ANY:MULTI=1:1) is maintained.
In essence, Multichain enables arbitrary cross-chain interactions and serves as router for Web 3, delivering improved user experience and fast cross-chain transactions. As a non-custodial protocol with a robust security framework, Multichain aims to provide a solid foundation for the future development of the decentralized web.
