MultiversX is a blockchain designed to enable scalability and secure decentralized applications. The platform is powered by adaptive state sharding, secure proof of stake, and a dedicated virtual machine that allows developers to build applications in multiple languages, including Rust, C/C++, C#, and Typescript. MultiversX also features a network structure that includes a metachain, shards, and nodes, with three distinct roles: Validator, Observer, and Fisherman. Validators are rewarded with eGold (EGLD) for providing services to the network, while Observers and Fishermen are not required to stake EGLD but can still provide read and relay access to the network and challenge invalid blocks.
The eGold (EGLD) is the native token of the MultiversX blockchain. It is a utility token that is used to pay for services on the MultiversX network and is also the collateral for validators who participate in the network consensus. eGold incentivizes validators to provide services to the network, such as transaction processing and network security, and also serves as a store of value for transactions within the MultiversX ecosystem.
Elrond, a blockchain technology project, was founded in 2017 by Lucian Todea, Beniamin and Lucian Mincu. The project is supported by the Elrond Network, a company based in Malta that works to expand the project and its capabilities. In June 2019, the project conducted a successful private investment round, raising $1.9 million from several angel investors. Later that same month, Elrond held an Initial Exchange Offering (IEO) that raised an additional $3.25 million in exchange for 25% of its total token supply. Initially, Elrond distributed its cryptocurrency as ERD coin, but after the project launched its mainnet in July 2020, the cryptocurrency was changed to EGLD coin. The project then held a transitory event that allowed investors to swap ERD for Elrond’s new EGLD cryptocurrency.
