What is it?

The TokenDIMO ($DIMO) is the native blockchain-based token of the DIMO protocol, an ERC-20 token issued to users and contributors1.

The ProjectThe DIMO project is a user-owned digital ecosystem that is driving change in the mobility sector. It's an open-source platform where real driver data makes technology useful, and everyone involved in the project has a say. DIMO is on a mission to be the driving force behind the future of mobility, a future where data shapes infrastructure, emissions are lower, roads are safer, and driving is better. The project aims to create a decentralized data-driven ecosystem fuelled by a network of drivers2.

What is it used for?

DIMO token ($DIMO) has several uses in the DIMO protocol:

  1. Reward System: When drivers connect their cars and stream data, they earn $DIMO tokens. Everyone earns a portion of the weekly drop, and they earn more when app developers and data consumers pay for their data or vehicle access.

  2. Transaction Method: $DIMO is used for transacting on top of the DIMO platform. This includes buying data, backing individual device IDs for hardware manufacturers, and potentially for future transactions involving payment for goods and services on the platform.

  3. Governance: $DIMO token holders are able to vote on how the protocol works. This includes decisions about upgrades to software code, protocols and standards, licensing, fee generation, and reward issuance.

  4. Staking and Spending: Businesses that produce DIMO-compatible hardware, transmit user data, and build apps must stake and/or spend $DIMO tokens in order to maintain a license and deploy products to the network.

  5. Community Membership: $DIMO holders may receive special access to various app features, events, and more, enhancing their experience in the DIMO ecosystem.

Who created it?

The DIMO token was created by a team led by Bryan Costanich, co-founder and CEO of Wilderness Labs, a startup dedicated to making hardware development as fast and easy as software.
