FeatherCoin (FTC) is a digital currency that was designed to be lighter and faster than other cryptocurrencies, which is reflected in its name. It features faster block processing (one block every minute) and has a total supply of 336 million coins, with about 278 million currently in circulation. Conceived as an upgraded and customized version of Bitcoin, FeatherCoin has been in existence since April 16, 2013, making it one of the oldest altcoins. It is still actively developed by its founder and an open-source community.
FeatherCoin is mainly used for fast and lightweight payments. Its fast block processing times enable instant transactions and settlement within one minute. FeatherCoin also supports an asset layer on top of its blockchain, allowing the creation, sending, and receiving of user tokens. This technology is similar to that used by Tether and MaidSafe on Bitcoin. The FeatherCoin wallets are designed for ease of use and security, mirroring Bitcoin Core releases, and are available as both desktop and mobile versions. They support low payment fees, making the coin attractive for both users and merchants.
FeatherCoin was founded by Peter Bushnell. The development and maintenance of the coin involve a team that includes Wolfgang Bremer (Research & Development), Oliver Ziegler (Development & Infrastructure), Ludovic Duvetter (Community & Marketing), and David Walton (Development & Infrastructure).
