Restaking involves the practice of staking the same Ethereum (ETH) on both the Ethereum network and other protocols. This process allows users to leverage Ethereum’s validators and staked tokens to bolster the security and trustworthiness of smaller and newer blockchains. Restake Finance adopts a decentralised approach to rehypothecation, which permits the use of LSTs (such as stETH) as crypto-economic security for services actively validated on its own layer.
Restake Finance facilitates a system where users can deposit LSTs into the protocol and receive rstETH in return, a tokenised representation of their contribution to EigenLayer. This entails the deposition of LSTs through DAO-governed smart contracts into EigenLayer, enabling users to accrue returns from both EigenLayer and Ethereum staking. RSTK, as the utility and governance token within the Restake Finance ecosystem, plays a pivotal role. It is utilised for governance purposes and to confer value to its holders through income generation. The system imposes a fee on all EigenLayer refunds, which is subsequently shared with the holders of the RSTK token.
